The ocean imagery reminded me a little bit of a scene in Cloud Atlas I previously wrote about. In this scene, the father-in-law of someone called Adam wants to discourage him from joining the Abolitionists movement. He says:

“No matter what you do it will never amount to anything more than a single drop in a limitless ocean.”

Ouch.

But Adam’s response is beyond perfect:

“What is an ocean but a multitude of drops?”
